 SOME BASS FISHING IN JAPAN
                                                          Nivaldo Issao Yamamoto

Returning from Brazil last February (2006), I for a while thought of stopping fishing here in Japan, but I was not able to resist because black bass fishing is running inside my veins.

I managed to get some money and thanks to my wife's help I bought a Temujin Amazon Flio rod, made by Ever Green International. I organized my tackle box and startet to fish on April 15 this year.

In Japan we are right at the beginning of Spring, but the weather seems to be rather weird: the cold days are still holding on and the temperature is about 7 degrees Celsius.

It was cold and raining... I started fishing aroung 9:00 in the morning and I had stop by 2:00 in the afternoon because the conditions were improper for casting.

On the following week, I was visited by a friend that lives em Shizuoka-Ken in the city of Fuji, two hours far from where I live.

My friend picked me ujp at 6:00 sharp and we got to the fishing point at 8:30; this point lies in Shiga-Ken and it is  about two hours far from my place. A cloudy sky and a cold wind spoilt our fishery. My friend fished a 35cm fish buty I got nothing at all. We stayed untill 5:30 p.m. because my friend had to travel back to his home and it was a bit far away. As a matter of fact, he was anxious because he had to work early in the morning.

On April 28, I visited LaKe Biwa again, now invited by a Japanese friend that works in the same factory. We moved to Otsu, 2 hours and hald by car far from my home. We got there by 7:00 a.m.. We wanted to fish a big fish.

The weather was really nice and sunny that day. But the wind was blowing hard. In the afternoon the wind got calmer and calmer - my friend managed to fish 2 nice fish: 43 cm and 42 cm. But I was unlucky again: no fish whatsoever in my line...

Persistently I caught a real nice fish at 7:00 in the evening - a 53 cm black bass that made my tiredness go away. I used:

Rod: Ever Green - TEMUJIM AMAZON FLIP - 70 XH ( EXTRA HEAVY)
Reel- SHIMANO - CALCUTA CONQUEST 201
Line : SUNLINE 16 LB
Rig HEAVY CAROLINA
Lures: BERKLEY - POWER BAIT - 3 INCH - POWER BULKY HAWG
