Yann Colas send us some
interesting news about fishing in Rodrigues, a very
small island of the Indiand Ocean. Yann wrote:
"A short preamble even if it might sound as a repetition!
Rodrigues Island is not for any angler. There is wind
(in 1992/1993, the Mourouck spot was a “Nathalie Simon”
spot, for windsurf … it offers 300 days of wind out of
365), and there are waves of an average of 2.5 meters.
Therefore, it has the advantages of its drawbacks. It is
a real chance for our anglers to discover that “the
bigger the sea, the best fishing is.
At Rod Fishing Club, we practice a fishing of discovery,
of sensations for accustomed lovers.
From October to December 2005: 10 marlins, no sailfish;
an average of 22 fishes of 6 or 7 species every day.
From October to December 2006: 28 rostrums for 67
fishing days: 16 marlins with 9 black ones and 12
sailfish; an average of 26 fishes of 6 or 7 species
every day.
The number of fishing days in 2006 is 20 % superior to
2005.
A good quantity of yellow-fin tunas of an average weigh
of 10 kg, against 7.5 kg last year; more dorados and
less wahoos.
At the beginning of October, 6 friends of the CNB from
Reunion Island came with Olivier Heredia to discover
jigging and the richness of rodrigan waters. On the
Eastern High Reef, their last line was quite good with 3
dog tooth tunas of 49.5 kg for the biggest and 36 kg for
the smallest and a great trevallie of 21 kg.
In the end of October, Marcel Waldschmit, from the
Double MM Sportfishing Agency in Holland, came 5 days
with Discovery Channel to film fishing in Rodrigues.
At the beginning of November, 5 jiggers from Singapore
came to test the sea in Rodrigues. 2 of them find the
sea rough and are sick on the first day ... They are
used to fish on waters as quite as Rodrigues’ lagoon!!
The other 3 quickly get used to it. Numerous fishes:
doggies, trevallies, red corail bass, red snapper,
sharks, etc… come to crown with success their efforts
and perseverance, particularly with a beautiful dog
tooth of 66 kg caught by Mark.
At the end of November, 2 “senior citizens” Jean Beuzard
and Jean Pierre Labre establish the club record with 102
yellow fin tunas on the Eastern High Reef.
Two days after, still on the Eastern High Reef, the
group of Jean Charles (4 people), improve this record
with 107 yellow fin tunas.
Fishing days on the Eastern High Reef were exceptional.
Among one of these, at the beginning of December, Daniel
Martinet saw a big marlin (estimated to over 400 kg by
Yann), empty his Tiagra 130, with being able to do
anything. He comforted himself with a black marlin of
199kg. Daniel: “the grander is for another time”!
